Edible Topper Design Brief: Five Details to Send Before Editing Starts
A folder of inspiration is helpful, but it is not quite a design brief. Before your artwork is edited or built, send these five details so the first proof begins in the right direction.
1. Name the dessert and final printed size
Say whether the image is for a cake, cupcake, cookie or another surface, then give the finished topper dimensions. A cake’s pan size and the visible decorating area are not always the same.
2. Lock the exact wording
Type names, dates and messages exactly as they should appear. Show preferred line breaks too. Copy-and-pasteable text is much safer than asking a designer to read handwriting from a reference photo.
3. Separate “must keep” from “can change”
Identify the photograph, logo or motif that cannot be altered. Then list what may be cropped, recoloured, removed or rearranged. This protects the important parts while leaving room to improve the composition.
4. Give colour priorities—not just a theme
“Garden party” can mean many palettes. Name two or three priority colours and mention the cake or icing colour behind the topper. Screen and edible-print colours can differ, so references guide the direction rather than guaranteeing an exact match.
5. Rank requested changes
Put essential edits first and optional ideas last. The Custom Topper Design Service uses grouped revision rounds, so one organized list makes each round more useful. The design fee is separate from the printed topper unless stated otherwise.
