Edible Fabric Sheets: Translucent or Shimmer? Three Designs to Try
Soft botanical folds or a sparkling bow? Edible fabric lets you bring a fabric-inspired finish to cakes and desserts. Start by choosing the sheet finish, then build your design around it.

Which edible fabric should you choose?
- For a soft, translucent look: our 8 × 11-inch Tiffany edible fabric is flexible and suited to cake decorating, chocolate and isomalt applications. Supplier guidance also describes draping and pleating.
- For a decorative shimmer: our 8.5 × 11-inch shimmer fabric offers a metallic-look surface for bows, bands and other shaped accents. The shimmer comes from the sheet finish; printing alone does not create metallic ink.
Three designs to make your own
- Blue botanical drape. Scatter fine blue leaves across a translucent panel. Keep the motif small enough to repeat through gentle folds, with the cake supporting the drape. Avoid placing names inside the folds.
- Celebration bow. Pair a blush cake with a bronze shimmer bow. Keep the loops modest and position the bow against the cake. Test the shape and attachment before making the final piece; flexibility does not guarantee a freestanding structure.
- Garden-party set. Repeat a sage botanical pattern on a cake band and matching cookie toppers. Use the same artwork at different scales. Measure the cake’s circumference and plan joins—one sheet may not reach all the way around.

From sheet to dessert
For shimmer sheets, follow the product’s sequence: allow the print to dry, cut, peel the backing, then apply to a slightly moist suitable icing surface. Try a small offcut first. Follow Tiffany’s own instructions for translucent applications, especially chocolate or isomalt; do not assume the two finishes need identical handling.
